He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Sr. Cooper and Ida Pitts Cooper; his sister Virginia Appling; his sons, John and Jeffrey; and his granddaughter Aja Cooper.

He is survived by: his wife Martha Armstrong; his children, Janet (Glenn Asher), Thomas and Kimberly (Scott Treadway); and his daughter-in-law Kawana Cooper. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
