With heavy hearts, we announce the death of David Patrick Fitzgerald of Knoxville, Tennessee, born in Richmond, Virginia, who passed away on March 10, 2026 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Timothy A. Fitzgerald and Myrtle E. Fitzgerald (Covington); his sons-in-law, Russell Poston and William Thornton; and his siblings-in-law, James Shelbourne and Jan Fitzgerald.
He is survived by: his wife Gracie Fitzgerald (Wade) of Knoxville; his children, Deborah Thomas (Scott) of Sweetwater, Cynthia Thornton of Cosby, Timothy A. Fitzgerald (Cathleen) of Knoxville and Jennifer Cunningham (Mark) of Knoxville; his grandchildren, Joshua Thomas (Skyenne) of Sweetwater, Kesha Badgett (Thomas) of Sweetwater, Zachary Thornton (Amanda) of Knoxville, Alexander Thornton of Cosby, Hunter Thornton (Kardyn) of Knoxville, Andrew Fitzgerald of Knoxville, Mark Poston of Knoxville and Farris Poston (Brooke) of Knoxville; his great grandchildren, Easton, Kayce Thomas, Reagan, JT Badgett, Maggie, Matilda, Tommy Thornton, Karma, Riot, Damion Fitzgerald, Lukas Jones, Olivia, Remi Poston, Sophie, Lilly Gosnell and Greyson Thornton; and his siblings, Jeanne Shelbourne, Ruby Aloi (Charlie) and Barry Fitzgerald of Richmond. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project as he was a big supporter of helping out his fellow veteran friends in need.
