He was predeceased by : his parents, John T. Johnson and Mary Jo Johnson (Law); and his former life partner Nancy Johnson (Anderson). He is survived by : his wife Stephanie Johnson (Roberts) of Knoxville, Tennessee.; his children, Toby Johnson (Susan) of Indianapolis, Andy Johnson of Loudon, Christie Johnson of Knoxville and Jeremy Johnson of Alcoa, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Caleb Johnson (Danielle), Austin Johnson (Madelyn), Tucker Johnson, Emilie Grace Johnson, Georgia Johnson, Hunter Elliott, Anna Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Mason Johnson and Ryker Smith; and his siblings, Tom Johnson (Deborah), Mary Hargis (Kenneth) and Helen Daniels. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold's name can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or UT Hospice.
