He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Antonio, Maria Kapetanopoulos (John), Narcissus and Lucille Helmacki (Carol). He is survived by: his parents, John Captain and Carol Captain; his sister Mariah Davila (Robert); his nephews, Yanni and Periclis; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Hope, Christina Captain, Chap, Cameron and Anthony Captain; his grandchildren, Cash and Zephyr; his brother Stan Helmacki (Jennifer Fritz); his son James; and his granddaughter Tiffany Jarrett.

James served as an alter boy and in lieu of flowers the family asks a donation be made to Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in his name.
