He was predeceased by: his parents, Carol Riley Powers and Ken Powers. He is survived by: his wife Janice Sloan-Powers; his children, James Powers II (Hannah) of New York, NY and Jessica Murray (Chris) of Bowling Green, KY; and his siblings, Ken Powers (Anne) of Duluth, GA, David Powers (Karen) of Roswell, NM, Patricia Jennings (Dan) of Des Plaines, IL, Lowry Powers (Nadya) of Knightdale, NC and Colleen Stroshine (Eric) of Centerville, MA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Bridges Funeral Home (5430 Rutledge Pike, Knoxville, TN 37924). A rosary will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (711 S Northshore Dr, Knoxville, TN 37919). A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920).
