He was predeceased by: his parents, Shelly Lewis and Emma Aliee Ferguson Johnson; and his siblings, Betty Jo Johnson and Leroy Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Johnson of Knoxville, Tennessee; and his children, Angela Mintz (Albert Bowers) of Knoxville, Tennessee and David Johnson of New Castle. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
