With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Norman Lee Payne (Knoxville, Tennessee), born in Capitan, New Mexico, who passed away on August 2, 2025 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Though Norman may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Norman touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Payne and Ila Mae Payne; his son Dean Scott; and his daughter-in-law Karen Scott. He is survived by: his wife Mercedes "Mickie" Payne; his sister Naomi Wadsworth (Don); his niece Suzie O'Donnell; and his cousins, Damon Payne, Windell Payne and Johnny Payne.
