He is survived by: his close friend Elizabeth Jenkins (Sis); his children, Sam Mayes (Misty), Lisa Foley (Tom) and David Mayes (Joanne); his grandchildren, Blake (Katie), Zachary (Natalie), Eli Mayes and Haley Foley; his great grandchildren, Noma, Isla and Sofia Mayes; and his sister Sharon Perryman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Tennessee Children's Hospital, where his great-granddaughter received exceptional care during a life-threatening illness (East Tennessee Children's Hospital Development Office – in honor of Otis Mayes, P.O. Box 15010, Knoxville, TN 37901-5010).
