He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Whitson and Alice Whitson (Little); his former wife Lee Whitson; and his sisters, Elizabeth Whitson of Dawsonville, GA and Karolyn Kinkaid of Atlanta, GA..
He is survived by: his wife Mary Lee Ewell; his children, Paige Whitson of San Francisco, CA and Richard Whitson, Jr.; his daughter-in-law Signe Whitson of Allentown, PA; and his granddaughters, Hannah and Elise Whitson.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21st 2025 at 1:00 PM at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. A family service will be held on Tuesday, October 21st 2025 at the Of the Ascension Columbarium.
