He was predeceased by: his wife Linda Gann Petty; his son Ronald Wayne Petty; his grandson Alan Leon Whitaker; his parents, Olaf Petty and Edna Petty; his siblings, Nadine Duncan and Jay Harold Petty; and his nephew James Hale.
He is survived by: his daughters, Shelia "Sissy" Whitaker (Jerry Boley) and Sandy Petty; his grandchildren, Ronald Whitaker (Miranda) and Amy Whitaker (Jeremy Middleton); his great grandchildren, Connor Verkuilen, Emma Whitaker, Micah Middleton, Madelyn Middleton, Wyatt Alan Leon Whitaker and Whitley Whitaker; and his sister Geraldine Yarber.
