He was predeceased by: his parents, Velma Irene Ledbetter Thornburgh and Alfred Herschel Thornburgh; and his brother Arthur Eugene Thornburgh. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Hammond Thornburgh; his children, Gary Thornburgh (Tonya), Sara Thornburgh and Rebecca McNaney (Jeff); his grandchildren, Justice, Colton, Evan, Tristan, Marena, Stephen and Amaya; and his sister Sandra Bell.
