He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Baxter and Mary Thomas Ervin; and his wife Marilyn McDaniel Ervin. He is survived by: his children, Michelle Grooms (Jason), Matt Ervin (Gina) of Lewisburg and John Jesse Ervin of Nashville; his sister Cheryl Powell (Michael) of Murfreesboro; and his grandchildren, Caleb, Leah, Kezia, Jaxon and James Thomas.
