He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorthy Jean Mooney and Jesse Boyd Mooney; and his siblings, Jeanne Suzanne Mooney and David Michael Mooney. He is survived by: his wife Maribeth Balthrop; his children, Chris Balthrop and DeAnn Balthrop; his grandchildren, Quin Balthrop, Sileas Balthrop and Connor Balthrop; his sister-in-law Katie Mooney; his niece Emma Kate Mooney; his nephew Davis Mooney (Hannah); his great-nephews, Winston Mooney and William Mooney; and his close friend Scout. He is also survived by family grew as they had a son and a daughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mercy Fund at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church.
