He was predeceased by: his mother Bessie Jernigan (Qualls); his wife Pamela Lourie Jernigan; his father Charles Lankford Jernigan; and his siblings, Maymie Holder, Ella Mae Davison, Harry Lee Jernigan and Lonnie Charles Jernigan.
He is survived by: his daughters, Renee Taylor (Matthew) and Kelley Taylor; his siblings, Edna Smith, Mary Ruth Mullins, Billy Jernigan and Robert Jernigan; his grandchildren, Krislyn Melson (Nathan), Andrew McCarthy-Clark (Matthew), Hayley Graves (Stephen) and Zachary Taylor (Maddison); and his great grandchildren, Clara Melson, Auggie Melson, Violet "Puffy Cheeks" Melson and Natalie McCarthy-Clark.
