He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Thomas Moates and Margaret "Mott" Moates of Harriman, TN.. He is survived by: his wife Catherine Moates; his children, Heather N. Moates of Knoxville and Chance A. Moates (Kelsey) of Simpsonville, S. C.; his stepdaughter Savannah Yancey (Donnie) of Thomasville, Georgia.; and his grandchildren, Tanae S. Moates, Warren "Man-Man" Moates, Jayla M. Blackmon, Adelaide Moates, Elliott Lavender, Taha Madany, Henlee Yancey and Summer Kate Yancey. He is also survived by in-laws and lifelong friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the Smith Life and Legacy (1402 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803).
