He was predeceased by : his parents, Jack Smith and Nola Smith (Buckner); his grandsons, Sylas Jay Richardson and Creed Richardson; his siblings, Alice (Arley Tharp), Alma (J. B. Paul) and Paul Smith; and his brother-in-law Don Hensley.

He is survived by : his daughter Lynsey Richardson (Nathan); his grandson Sawyer Richardson; his sisters, Mary Irick (Darrell) and Martha Smith Hensley; and his sister-in-law Judy Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
