With sadness, we share the passing of Walter Aills Phillips Jr. of Maynardville, Tennessee. Walter, born on April 13, 1937, passed away on October 13, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Walter Aills and Julia Babb Phillips; his daughter Carol Phillips Knolton; his sisters, Ann Lockridge, Phyllis Phillips and Barbara Way; his parents-in-law, Charlie and Alden Byrge; and his nephew Scott Lockridge.
He is survived by: his wife Deanna Byrge Phillips; his children, Chris Phillips (Diane) of Middlesboro, Carla Sykes (Mark) of Knoxville and Chad Phillips (Allyson) of Halls; his grandchildren, Maleika Peden (Tyler), Marissa Phillips (Bryce Schumann), Julia Wolfenbarger (Taylor), Benjamin Aills Hoskins (Amanda Lane), Clay and Cortney Phillips; his great grandchildren, Caydence Phillips-Cordell (Malachai Davis), Braxton Williams, Paisley Peden and Valen Schumann; his great great grandchild Briggs Davis; his sister Cathy Thomas of Hampton, Tennessee; and his siblings-in-law, Glenna Byrge of Wartburg, Debra Adkins (Tim) of Wartburg, Judy Byrge of Wartburg and Charles Byrge (Myra Tipton) of Wartburg. He is also survived by loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 7th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Family Home.
