He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Nelson and Catherine Nelson (Coyne); and his son Steve Nelson (Michele Bednarke). He is survived by: his wife Erika (Eiler); his grandchildren, Steven and Lauren Nelson; his daughters, Jennifer "Jenny" Stevens (John) and Elizabeth "Betsy" Nelson; his sister-in-law Laura Novak; his friend Mary Ellen Moroney; Erica.
Jenny and John welcomed him into their home in Illinois after he defied the odds after he had covid in 2020.
