He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Wade and Mattie Lou Harrell Cathey; his son David Cathey; and his siblings, J. N., Leon, Buddy, Jerry, Richard, Bill Cathey, Barbara Jean Cathey and Dorothy Hollis.
He is survived by: his wife Martha Dean Muncey Cathey; his daughter Sherrie Shields (Donnie); his daughter-in-law Shelia Cathey; and his grandchildren, D. J. Shields, Shania Cathey and Emily Shauman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
