He was predeceased by: his wife Lorell Mills; his daughter Kathy Hollandsworth; and his parents, John Mills and Hattie Mills. He is survived by: his daughters, Vicky Shirley (Gary) and Sherry Preston (Jimmy). He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of sending flowers, his daughters encourage friends and family to celebrate his life by planting a tree, taking a walk in the woods, or watching birds from the porch.
