He was predeceased by: his parents, Willard Betts and Mildred Cash Betts; his former wife Phyllis Betts; his sisters, Brenda Fay and Georgia Nell; and his nephew Tommy "Buddy" Betts, Jr..
He is survived by: his son Dr. Brad Patterson (Tracy); his brother Tommy Betts, Sr.; his grandchildren, Caitlyn Ross (Ethan), Ty Patterson and Ellis Patterson (Abby); and his great grandchildren, Paisley, Presley Patterson, Elliott and Carter Ross. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
