He was predeceased by: his parents, Annie Lee Brown and Edward Brown; and his siblings, Fredrick "Freddie" Smith, Albert Smith, Johnny Lee Smith and Willie Lee.

He is survived by: his sister Mattie Edwards (Surviving); and his children, Sheneeter, Venonia (Rick), Edward III (Theresa), Terrance (Jackie), Arlene (Marlon), Marlene, Darnell Sr., Ryan, Robyn and Adrian.
