He was predeceased by: his parents, Mildred Dickerson Clayton Stanford and Newel T. Clayton; and his brother James Earl Clayton. He is survived by: his wife Jean Horton Clayton; his children, Joe Gregory "Willis" Clayton (Bernice) of Katy, Texas, Christy Clayton of Sheridan and Jennifer Clayton Lowe (David) of Memphis; and his grandchildren, Jase Lowe of Memphis, Travis Coy and Erica Coy of Sheridan. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Memphis Animal Shelter or the donor's choice.
