He was predeceased by: his parents, Boyce Barber and Eulah Barber; his brother Roy Barber; his brother-in-law Charles Holcomb; and his parents-in-law, Louie and Catherine Whitley.

He is survived by: his wife Dean Whitley Barber; his daughters, Dana Brown (Russell) and Carla Wilemon (Brandon); his siblings, Joan Holcomb and Eddie Barber (Tammy); and his grandchildren, Reese Brown, Riley Brown Davis (Ben), Ben Wilemon, Garrett Wilemon, Ryan Brown, Reagan Brown and Avery Wilemon. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joseph's memory to River Region Pregnancy Center or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
