He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Russell Hawkins and Patsy Newsom Hawkins. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Mayfield Hawkins; his brother Ronald R. Hawkins (Brenda); and his nieces, Holly Hawkins Clark (Trey), Kimberly Laughlin (Danny), Lee Pryor Mullen (Steve) and Hilarie Pryor Bain (Kevin). He is also survived by mentor to his family.
