James left this world on April 20, 2024 at the age of 73, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by : his parents, Stuart Fortner and Cathren Fortner of Bristol; his brother Wayne Fortner; and his mother-in-law Lee Sutherland of Kingsport. He is survived by : his wife Donna Fortner; his sons, Eric Fortner (Elisha) and Scott Fortner; his grandchildren, Allie, Trinity, Tinley, Dylan and Cooper Fortner; his siblings, Tom Fortner (Judy) of Blountville and Kathy Seymour of Bristol; his sisters-in-law, Diana White of Bristol and Karen Fortner of Kingsport; and his father-in-law Bob Sutherland of Kingsport. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Westside Chapel Funeral Home, Inc. (3521 W Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN 37814). A graveside service was held on Saturday, April 27th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Bethesda Cemetery.
