He was predeceased by: his parents, Berry Douglas Nichols and Lena McFarlin Nichols; and his siblings, Glenn Nichols, John Nichols, Robert Nichols, Doug Nichols, Mary Jane McClain and Mildred Harding.

He is survived by: his wife Agnes Jenkins Nichols; his children, Mark Nichols (Sandra) and Leigh Ann Rummage (Randy); his grandchildren, Kyle Nichols (Alex), Brittany Simpson (Scott), Brandon Nichols (Caroline) and Ryleigh Rummage; his great grandchildren, Emmitt Nichols, Myla Nichols, Landon Nichols, Kendall Nichols, Lainey Nichols, Cooper Simpson and Jack Simpson; and his sisters, Becky Thompson and Sue Evans.
