He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry J. Merz and Stella Politte Merz; his former wife Claudia Rohr Merz; David Merz, Jr., Norbert Merz and Norma Baumle.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia J. Merz; his children, Phillip Merz (Carrie) and Laura Schmidt (Michael); his stepchildren, Edward Prosser (Kathy), Timothy Prosser (Betty), Christopher Prosser (Valarie), Cindy Tresider (Robert) and Patrick Prosser (Stephanie); and his sisters, Noreen Boyer and Charlotte Deeken. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Woodfin Memorial Chapel (1488 Lascassas Pike, Murfreesboro, TN 37130). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
