He is survived by: his wife Ruth Mayes of Virginia; his children, Ginny Pearcy (Bill) of Murfreesboro, Carol Lowe (Barry) of Christiana, TN, Joe C. Mayes, III (Chrysse) of Ashburn, VA and David Mayes (Gretchen) of Columbus, OH; and also John C. Williams. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
