Though Ernest may have slipped beyond the veil of mortality, his essence lingers like a faint fragrance in the air, a lingering reminder of the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Marjorie Owen Williams and Ernest Williams II. He is survived by: his wife Jerry; and his sisters, Tracy Williams Barron of Concord and Marjorie Williams Coward of Chapel Hill. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Alive Hospice, St. George's Episcopal Church or a charity of one's choice.
