He was predeceased by: his parents, James Walter Whitus, Jr. and Rachel Karnes Whitus; his son Jonathan McGregor Whitus; and his brother Larry Whitus. He is survived by: his wife Betty Arnold Whitus; his children, Brian Whitus (Leah) and Shannon Skelton (David); and his grandchildren, Aynsley (Nathaniel), Emma, Ivan Whitus, Bryce, Joshua (Lauren), Alyson (Hayden) and Claire Skelton.
