Russell; his siblings, Leroy (Carol), Eddie, Sammy, Larry Lafayette, Edna Newsome and Lillie Moore; his children, Melvin J. Jones (Franchesca), Jimmy L. Jones Jr. (Monique) and Jessica Jones-Brooks (Isaac); his godchildren, Elijah "Stevin" Stevens, Jr. (J'Nay) and Je'Shayla Mathers; and his siblings-in-law, Minister Shirley Welch, Mildred Jones and Rev. Jimmy L. Jones, Sr. (Marilyn). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
