He is survived by: his wife Betty James Counts; his stepchildren, Andy James (Elizabeth) of Tulsa, OK, Lauren Dawkins (De) of Nashville, TN and Evan James of Nashville, TN; his siblings, Larry Counts (Pat) of Johnson City, TN and Sue Blevins (Steve) of Abingdon, VA; and his siblings' children, Holly Briscoll (Jeremy) of Blountville, TN, Carter Counts of Johnson City, TN and Chad Counts (Kate) of Folly Beach, SC.. He is also survived by grandchildren.
