He was predeceased by: his former wife Othella Pierce; and his sisters, Martha Carter and Vicki Pierce. He is survived by: his wife Vearl J. Pierce; his children, Susan Marie Southern (Dennis), Margaret Ann Morrison (Bobby), William Thomas "Tom" Pierce, Cameron Hackett (Tammy) and Shawn Hackett (Leigh Anne); his grandchildren, Amy Purvis, Brian Southern, Brittney Beckham (Brett), Chelsey Wylde (Eric), Stephanie Stoltz (Chris), Kyle Pierce, Tyler Pierce, Abbey, Molly Hackett, Whitney Taylor (Josh) and Jessica Gibson (Dalton); and his sister Norma Laden. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Woodson Chapel Church of Christ (5800 Edmondson Pike, Nashville, TN 37211). A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 at 6:30 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, July 25th 2025 at 11:00 AM at 2440 Whitten Rd, Memphis, TN 38133.
