He was predeceased by : his wife Helen Painter; his daughter Judy Melton; his son-in-law Wayne Melton; his grandsons, Jamie Melton of New Tazewell and Chris Melton of New Tazewell; and his parents, Lola Kate Painter and William Painter of New Tazewell.

He is survived by : his sons, Larry (Judy) of New Tazewell, Jim (Lischa) of Tazewell, Joe (Mary) of Halls, David (Joyce) of Tazewell and Jackie (Tonya) of New Tazewell; and also, Betty Barnard, Linda Stilson, Brenda McMurray, Teresa Sutton and Lisa Greer. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
