He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Nichols and Phyllis Nichols; and his grandparents, Lawrence, Annie Nichols, James and Orlena Bugg.

He is survived by: his son James Nichols; his grandsons, Brennan and Colton Nichols of White Pine; his sisters, Charlene Spurgeon of Dandridge and Tina Parker of Kodak; and his aunts and uncles, Sherry Bugg of Newport, Nartricia Seals of Morristown, Judy Nichols of Newport, John (Cathy Bugg), James Moore of Newport and Johnny Williamson of Newport.
