He was predeceased by: his wife Diane Messer; his son Joseph Messer; his parents, John Messer and Rachael Bea Messer; his siblings, Frank, Ronnie Messer, Hester Turner and Christine Ball; and his grandson John Messer.
He is survived by: his sons, Doug Messer Jr. (Teresa), David Messer, Tom Messer (Amy) and Nooge Messer (Samantha); and his siblings, Carson Messer (Ruby) and Lola Hembree. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Manes Funeral Home (363 E Main St, Newport, TN 37821). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel (363 E Main St, Newport, TN 37821). A burial will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Messer Family Cemetery.
