He was predeceased by: his wife Ruby Sheppard (Nichelson); his parents, Charlie Sheppard and Mary Ellen Sheppard (Shoemake); his siblings, Earnest, Lewis, Sara, Edna, Shirley, Diane and Helen Malone; and his great grandchild Lillia Clarkson Collins.
He is survived by: his children, Patricia Hensley (Lonnie), Vance Sheppard (Lisa) and Kevin Sheppard; his brothers, Linzie Sheppard, Bill Sheppard (Mary), David Sheppard (Nadine) and Jerry Sheppard (Jan); his grandchildren, Keith Collins, Tracy Minor (Rodney), Daniel Collins (Christian), Alex Sheppard (Tabitha), Justice Sheppard and Averie Sheppard; his cousin Anna Roberts; and his close friend Wilma Ford. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
