He was predeceased by : his parents, R. D. "Doc" Adkins and Margie Adkins; his wife Betty Kay Adkins; his siblings, Christine "Cricket" Ashley, Louise Adkins and Roy Adkins; and his nephew Steve Adkins.

He is survived by : his son Clay Adkins of Cleveland, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Ryan Adkins of Cleveland and Natalie Tarver (Rossman) of Cleveland; his sister-in-law Sandra Seitz of Chattanooga; his nieces and nephews, Jim Ashley of Chattanooga, Fred Adkins of Jacksonville, Fla., Wanda Barger of Madisonville, Susan Day of Chattanooga and Pam Williams of Jacksonville; and his cousins, Ray Adkins and Doris Ellis of Chattanooga.
