He was predeceased by: his parents, James Carl "J. C." Merrell and Lillie Mae Johnson Merrell; and his siblings, Joy C. Dowty, Marti Johnson, Margaret Rick, Tom "Cowboy" Merrell, James Ray Merrell and Kenneth Darrell Merrell.
He is survived by: his siblings, Lynette Tillman of Paris, TN and Joe David Merrell of Big Sandy, TN; and his nieces, Kathy Green, Gini Lyn Greer and Cassie Mae Morganti. He is also survived by several other nieces, nephews.
