The family announces the passing of Joel Whittemore of Portland, Tennessee on September 25, 2026. Joel, born on February 9, 1953 in Glasgow, Kentucky, was part of many shared moments and relationships throughout life. He was predeceased by: his parents, Cordell Whittemore and Lorell Davis; his stepfather Pete Davis; and his brothers, Jerry and Tony Whittemore.
He is survived by: his wife Thalia Whittemore; his children, Joel "Lil'Jody" Whittemore (Kerri), James "Bubba" Whittemore (Brandy), Tiffany Whittemore (Kevin Davis) and Eric Whittemore (Morgan); his grandchildren, Makayla, Mackenzie, Addison, Caleb, Easton, Cortland, Christian, Sula, Jessica and Nicole; and his sisters, Terri Miller and Dorothy Miller. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Viewing was held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Ursday Cole & Garrett Funeral Home and Cremation Services - White House (212 TN-76, White House, TN 37188). A graveside service was held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Hillcrest Cemetery (3141 US-31W, White House, TN 37188). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the J. Travis Park (4155 Wilkes Rd, Springfield, TN 37172).
He also spent time working for the Red Cross as a blood donation bus driver.
