He was predeceased by: his wife Faye Lynn Kernell; his son Jerry Kernell; his parents, Thomas Kernell and Bonnie Jewell Wolfe Kernell; his siblings, A. C. Kernell, James Kernell, Doug Kernell and Joyce Ann Kernell; his grandsons, Holden Crowder and P. J. Kernell; and his sister-in-law Helen Kernell.
He is survived by: his children, David (Stephanie Kernell), Rhonda Faye (Tommy Loftis) of Lebanon, Angela York, Kimberly Kernell and Lannie (Allena Kernell); and his siblings, Roy Kernell, Margie Rush of Whitleyville, Gaile Hensley and Brenda Scheu of Clay County. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
