He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Morrison James and Dr. Harold E. James Sr.; his son Brian Thomas James; his granddaughter Jeanne Madeline James; and his brother Harold Edward James.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Tauber James; his sons, Mark Edward James (Karla), Gregory Scott James (Jennifer), Nathan Edward James (Charolet) and Daniel Emory James; his stepson Daniel Jeremy Tauber (Wanna); his adoptive sons, Matthew Allen Carrizosa and Geoffrey Allen Carrizosa; and his niece Evangeline James. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
