He was predeceased by: his parents, T. E. Sowell (PeeWee) and Joyce Rickman Sowell; his wife Shelia Rene Rowland; and his grandparents, Elmer, Jewel Thacker Sowell, William T. and Verlie Lee Evans Rickman.
He is survived by: his sister Phyllis Sowell Hysmith (Teddy) of Bethel Springs, TN; and his daughter Sammi Nicole Blakely of Athens, AL. He is also survived by three grandchildren; and a host of extended family and lifelong friends.
