We announce the death of Doris Byrd Sartin of Sevierville, Tennessee, who passed away on August 30, 2026, at the age of 100. She was predeceased by: her parents, Dewey Byrd and Jonnie Byrd; her former husband John D. Sartin; her brother Rex C. Byrd; and her son-in-law Lon H. Thornton, Jr..
She is survived by: her husband Gideons; her daughters, Linda Sartin Thornton, Barbara Sartin Wells (Greg) and Martha Sartin Thompson (Alan); and her grandchildren, Blake Thompson (Tanya), Heather Thornton Sartain (Mark), Kortney Thornton Stinnett (Robbie), John Thornton (Cindi), Stephanie Wells Rhodes (Larry), Cameron Wells Marsh (Chris) and Gregory Wells (Casey). She is also survived by Ten great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, two expected great-great grandchildren and several close nieces and a close nephew.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Charlottesville First Church of the Nazarene. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, Inc in memory of Doris Sartin.
