It is with sadness that the passing of Irene Virginia Downey of Sevierville, Tennessee is shared. Irene, born on February 8, 1929, passed away on September 1, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Alfred Russell Sr. and Margaret Dellinger Heishman; her husband Charles Jackson Downey (Jack); her sister Anna; her brother-in-law Harry Funkhouse; her sister Evelyn; her brother-in-law Donnie Foltz; her brother Alfred Heishman, Jr.; and her siblings-in-law, John L. Showman, Leon Downey, William "Bill" Downey, Turner and Louise Beedle.
She is survived by: her children, Dennis F. Downey (Sheri) of Seymour, Ronald Downey (Kim) of Strasburg and Tamela Bare (Kenny) of Fulks Run; her siblings, Nancy Showman and Richard Heishman (Charlotte); her sisters-in-law, Genevieve Heishman and Diane Greene; and her friend Joan Downey. She is also survived by four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Valley Funeral Service (14116 S Middle Rd, Edinburg, VA 22824). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Sunset View Memorial Gardens (2677 Fravel Rd, Woodstock, VA 22664).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John's United Church of Christ in Hamburg, Va.
