He was predeceased by: his parents, Lon H. Thornton, Sr. and Gertrude Jones Thornton; his son Lon Thornton III; his brother Alger Jones Thornton; and his father-in-law John Sartin.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Sartin Thornton; his children, Tonya Moyers (Tony), Heather Sartain (Mark), Kortney Stinnett (Robbie) and John Thornton (Cindi); his grandchildren, Greg Moyers (Abigail), Krista Moyers, LeAyn Moyers, Camryn Thornton, Will Sartain (Madyson), Brayden Stinnett and Lon H. Thornton IV; his stepgrandchildren, Tyler, Brett Stinnett and Savannah Compton; his mother-in-law Doris Sartin; his in-laws, Greg, Barbara Wells, Dr. Alan and Martha Thompson; and his sister-in-law Margaret Thornton. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Newport (599 Amanda Cir, Newport, TN 37821). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 at 5:00 PM at the First Baptist Church (599 Amanda Cir, Newport, TN 37821).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 599 Amanda Circle, Newport, TN 37821.
