“I graduated from Sewanee in 1982, and Dr. Carlson was one of the first classes I attended. He was brilliant. I was naive, immature, and intimidated by the level of academic talent that suddenly surrounded me. Dr. Carlson saw my vulnerability and clumsiness. As such, he met with me in the afternoons several times a week for several weeks to teach me how to write. He gave me the gift of writing which was later instrumental in my achieving a Ph.D in Psychology. Dr. Carlson, this candle is for you.”
