He was predeceased by: his wife Sylvia Elinor; his parents, Robert Roy Simmons and Iva Dell Hedges; his siblings, Gaylon Simmons, Georgia Hill, Thelma Doherty and Martha Nichols; his grandsons, Trevor Arant and Lance Darnell; and his son-in-law Mike Scott.
He is survived by: his children, Charles "Eddie" Simmons (Peggy), Gail Darnell (Sam), Nancy Scott and Diana Arant (Dathan); his grandchildren, Eric Simmons, Katie Simmons Graves, Samantha Darnell Ray, Dustin, Daniel Arant, John, David and Charles Scott; and his siblings, Robert Simmons (Crossville) and Bonnie Bowers.
