He was predeceased by: his parents, Harlon Lee and Maudie Rene Bates, Sr.; his wife Frances Bates; his children, Chris and Jason Bates; and his half-siblings, Allen Myrtle Bates, Homer Bates and Thelma Jean Brazier.
He is survived by: his children, Jeffery Lee Bates of Smithville and Carol Morse (Curt) of Sparta; his grandchildren, Brian Bates (Samantha), Kalene Farley (Storm), Meghan and Curt Morse, Jr.; his great grandchild Kayden Bates; and his sisters, Ann Pinegar, Cathy Edge and Lou Stanley (Eddie). He is also survived by 3 stepchildren, numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu to flowers the family ask donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Memory of Mr. Bates.
